Snake River Bridge at WY 22 Project

About this project

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is making improvements to Wyoming State Highway 22 (WY 22) between Jackson and Wilson in Teton County. The existing Snake River Bridge will be replaced with a four-lane bridge with a new pedestrian underpass west of the river. Because the WY 22/390 intersection is located very close to the bridge, it will be reconfigured to improve traffic flow. To improve safety, the project also includes installation of four wildlife crossings, as well as wildlife fencing, wildlife jump outs, and cattle guards.

Construction update information

The project will start with installation of a new pedestrian underpass and minor work on the Jackson Hole Community Pathway, followed by reconstruction of the bridge.

The informal parking area southwest of the bridge, which has been utilized as a parking area for those wishing to access the levy area, is closed. A new pedestrian access from the boat ramp and under the new bridge to the levy will be available upon work completion.

What drivers can expect during construction

WYDOT will replace the bridge and roadway approaches in phases so traffic can be maintained during construction. While the south half of the new bridge is under construction, traffic will be maintained on the existing bridge. When that first phase is complete, traffic will be moved to the two travel lanes on the south half of the new bridge. The old bridge will be removed to make room for the construction of the north half of the new bridge. When the north half is complete, all four lanes of traffic will be open. No detours are anticipated, and vehicular traffic will be maintained throughout construction.

What pathway users can expect during construction

WYDOT will strive to keep the pathway open during construction; however, short-term closures may be needed to maintain safety.
